Heat Unleashed: Exploring Pepper X, the Reigning Champion of the World's Hottest Peppers | Spiciest Peppers

A Pepper X pepper was shown earlier this month in Fort Mill, S.C.

In a fiery twist, Pepper X, a small, crinkled yellow-green pepper, has clinched the title of the world's spiciest chilli, crowned by Guinness World Records. Ed Currie, the mind behind this scorching creation from PuckerButt Pepper Company, proudly shared the news on Hot Ones.

Pepper X boasts an average of 2.693 million Scoville Heat Units on the Scoville Scale, outpacing its forerunner by threefold.

In perspective, a jalapeño ranges from 2,000 to 8,000 SHUs; even the potent Carolina Reaper falls behind at 1.64 million SHUs. Spice enthusiasts, brace yourselves for a new era of heat! 🔥🏆 #PepperX #SpicyMilestone #GuinnessRecord

On the show, Currie highlighted the logarithmic nature of the Scoville Scale, emphasizing that Pepper X is more like three times hotter than the Carolina Reaper. Describing the experience of consuming a whole Pepper X, he explained the immediate intense burn, followed by a bewildering sensation in the head and a widespread reaction throughout the body – from arms to chest.

Unlike the Reaper, Pepper X doesn't deliver an immediate throat burn; instead, it creeps in later, inducing a lingering discomfort. Interestingly, the epicentre of a pepper's heat resides not in its seeds but in the internal white placenta that cradles them. Guinness notes that Pepper X's textured exterior provides ample space for the placenta to flourish.

Stabilized a decade ago, Pepper X remained in the shadows until now, as no contender had surpassed Currie's record with the Carolina Reaper. Brace yourself for a spicier era!
